Chronicle Heritage is seeking an experienced Archaeologist to serve as an on-call Laboratory Technician for our Puerto Rico office in Caguas. The selected candidate will assist in the processing and curationof materials from current projects in our on-island laboratory.
Hire Type:
Hourly, as needed
Rate:
$20 - $25 D.O.E
Schedule:
Availability to work full-time, as needed
Responsibilities
Cleaning, sorting, counting, and weighing cultural material
Artifact cataloging materials to include bagging and tagging sorted items
Data entry of cultural materials
Prepare cultural materials for long-term curation
Other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
Successful completion of an archaeology field school or demonstrated equivalent experience
Archaeological laboratory experience
Familiarity with prehistoric and historic artifact types in Puerto Rico
Bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing abilities a plus
Resides in Puerto Rico
Physical and Mental Requirements and Work Environment
Regular work in the on-island laboratory is required, which necessitates ability to travel/drive a vehicle to this location.
Some laboratory work may require the ability to complete physically demanding tasks including carrying loads up to 30 pounds or more and standing or sitting in one place for long hours.
Must understand and follow health and safety protocols with respect to possibly contaminated materials.
Must be able to follow instructions from laboratory supervisor and organize one's own work; recognize and record scientific data; observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately.
